Pennsylvania Medical Society Announces Newly Elected Vice President

Edward P. Balaban, DO, FACP, FASCO, FCPP, a Montgomery County physician specializing in hematology and oncology, was elected vice president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society by a statewide group of physicians.

Dr. Balaban has been in practice for more than 40 years and currently serves as a consultant for Penn State Cancer Institute. He has been a member of PAMED for over 24 years. He served on the Board of Trustees from 2015 to 2023, including as its chair from 2020 to 2023.

“I am deeply honored to have been chosen by my peers as the next vice president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society,” he said. “I am passionately committed to recognizing the evolving and increasingly vital role of physicians in social and political advocacy and look forward to leading our physicians in advancing patient care throughout Pennsylvania.”

Dr. Balaban received his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at Allegheny Health General Hospital. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Political Action Committee, PAMED’s political arm for physicians aiming to make a positive contribution through the political process. In 2022, he received the Advocate of the Year award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

The election for the vice president position took place during PAMED’s annual meeting. His term will begin in January 2025.
